Yaya Bey – crying through my teeth | A COLORS SHOW
Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Yaya Bey’s experimental approach to R&B, hip-hop, jazz, reggae and Afrobeats has cemented her as one of the most exciting musical storytellers to emerge in recent years. Since dropping her debut album, ‘The Many Alter-Egos of Trill’eta Brown’, in 2016, Bey has released projects including ‘This Too… ‘ (2019), ‘Madison Tapes’ (2020), ‘Remember Your North Star’ (2022). Most recently, she released ‘Exodus the North Star’, an EP featuring highlights such as ‘on the pisces moon’ and ‘ascendent (mother fxcker)’ (ft. Exaktly).
For COLORS, Bey shares a taste of her expansive sound in a soulful performance of her new single ‘crying through my teeth’. A melange of drums, guitars, and keys form the song’s rich backdrop, against which Bey delivers enthralling vocals that lyrically explore the challenge of pushing through internal and external burdens. Catch the full performance above, it’s a stunner from start to finish.
