Papooz – Theatrical State of Mind

Parisian group Papooz, comprised of Ulysse Cottin and Armand Penicaut, are purveyors of masterfully infectious bossa nova cuts laced with funk. This past March, the duo shared ‘Night Sketches’, their delightful sophomore album which followed up 2016’s ‘Green Juice’ which featured standout single ‘Ann Wants to Dance’. The newly released project embodies a funkier soundscape, with the twelve tracks further exploring the duo’s incredibly catchy melodies and marvellous instrumentation on cuts like ‘Pacific Telephone’, ‘Let The Morning Come Again’ and ‘Downtown Babylon’.

As part of their COLORS session however, the duo unleash a dazzling performance of ‘Theatrical State of Mind’, a spiralling funk-filled extravaganza that’ll have you up and about from the get go. Delivered with an unparalleled energy, the track’s groovy guitars and striking drums are accompanied by Ulysse’s Beatles-esque vocals as gentle piano progressions add a certain delicate touch to the overall sound. Let Papooz put you in a ‘Theatrical State of Mind’ above and be sure to give their equally enchanting album ‘Night Sketches’ a spin too!
