Joji – ATTENTION

Since initially starting out on YouTube as a comedian under the moniker Filthy Frank, Japan-born, New York-based George Miller now releases his atmospheric tunes under the moniker Joji. Having learnt to produce going up in Japan, Joji’s progression as an artist and songwriter is evident throughout his discography, from 2015’s Chloe Burbank Volume 1 to 2017’s Lost Instruments and In Tongues EPs. However, it’s with his debut studio album BALLADS1, which features standout tracks like “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK” and “YEAH RIGHT”, where Joji’s artistry as a producer and songwriter truly shines.

For COLORS, Joji delivers a haunting performance of “ATTENTION”, the opening track from his BALLADS1 album. The production boasts a moody and amtospheric vibe which is wonderfully mirrored by Joji’s solemn vocals in which he sets the scene for the track with the opening line “Girl, would it kill you just to show a little bit of attention?”. The minimalist and subdued instrumentation is carried by a distorted bassline, giving the track a gritty, twisted edge. Check out Joji’s performance of “ATTENTION” above, and be sure to put BALLADS1 on rotation too.
