Montreal based artist Shay Lia is one of the most exciting R&B voices to come out of Canada. Her slew of enticing singles wonderfully accentuate the rising singer’s mesmerising and velveteen voice whilst production from the likes of Kaytranada and Sango offer a slick finesse. London based singer, songwriter and producer Dan Bartlett aka Dan D’Lion stepped into the spotlight in style with his Tame Impala and N.E.R.D-influenced debut single “Give What You Take” towards the end of last year. The track’s vibrant atmospherics are present in follow up single ‘~treading water~’ which boasts again brings together his colourful vocals with a dazzling array of electronic pulses infused with sizzling synths. ‘~treading water~’ is a magnificent example of alternative pop packed with refreshing ideas, cementing Bartlett as one to watch.
South London based newcomer Arlo Parks introduced herself with the soulful and delicate debut single ‘Cola’ last November, a spellbinding effort which showcases the artist’s unquestionable promise. Oozing a sense of calm throughout the track, the eighteen year old artist lays down her soothing tones across a soundscape which boasts funk-filled guitar melodies and persistent drums which carry the track along its graceful path. Exploring the notions that come with the heartbreak of a cheating lover, ‘Cola’ serves as a wonderful introduction to Arlo Parks’ poignant songwriting and alluring voice.
Jinka’s music is explosive in all the best ways possible. Originally from Transylvania, the West Berlin based singer, songwriter, producer and musician unleashed her powerful debut single ‘Trash From The Past’ in 2017 and has since been dropping her vibrant and atmospheric slices of electro-pop cuts into the universe. Her latest offering is the unique and playful ‘Ghost 2 U’, a track which continues Jinka’s trend of adding a dollop of the unexpected – something that’s also present in the track’s accompanying intriguing music video. Whether it’s through the oddball sound samples or her energetic vocal delivery, Jinka has the ability to keep you on the edge of your seat at all times.
Sydney based artist BLESSED first burst onto the scene with the spirited ‘One And Only’ back in 2016 which served as the perfect introduction to his eclectic alternative sound. Sri Lankan-born, Toronto-based rapper Shan Vincent de Paul teams up with fellow native Navz-47 on his smooth and mellow new single ‘Heaven’. Having released two spectacular albums in the form of ‘Saviors’ and ‘Trigger Happy Heartbreak’ in 2016 and 2017 respectively, the sideways member’s music touches on a range of topics from politics and family to identity and love through his powerful lyricism and thought provoking music videos. With the LA+CH produced ‘Heaven’, Navz-47 takes centre stage as she sings/raps in Tamil over the lush soundscape whilst Shan Vincent de Paul offers up his own smooth vocals for the chorus.
Ethiopian-American musician and songwriter Mereba yields a voice that heals, warms and soothes on gorgeously textured songs that evoke the deepest of emotions. Her latest offering, the unequivocally beautiful and relaxing ‘Bet’ which dropped towards the end of last year, sees the L.A. based artist capture a love that’s worth fighting for against all odds. Mereba’s golden tones flutter across the gentle guitar-laden soundscape, before lifting off in an unexpected but poetic spoken word piece that adds another layer to the track.
