Having premiered the track on SNL last month, Tame Impala, the psychedelic musical project fronted by Kevin Parker, have shared ‘Borderline’. Along with previously released single ‘Patience’, the two tracks serve as the first taste of new music since the band released ‘Currents’ back in 2015. With ‘Borderline’, the Australian outfit deliver yet another delicious slice of sun-soaked psychedelia as Ken Parker’s breezy vocals sweep across the bouncy production comprised of a crisp beat and groovy guitars.
Consider yourself introduced to Kian Brownfield aka KIAN, an Australian singer/songwriter whose debut single ‘Waiting’ has already surpassed 30 million streams and has supported COLORS alum Jorja Smith on her AU leg of her tour. KIAN’s latest offering, the endearing and guitar-laden ‘Childism’ brings to mind the likes of Frank Ocean circa Blonde interspersed with the warming tones akin to that of Khalid. There’s something personable to ‘Childism’, everything from the poignant, nostalgic lyricism and sun-soaked production to KIAN’s soft intonations gel together effortlessly to create something truly special.
Melbourne based multi-instrumentalist Yeo delights with his first single of the year in the form of the bouncy ‘Restless’. Packed with groove, the vibrant atmospherics of the song are backed up brilliantly by Yeo’s soothing tones which ride the way of those funk-filled guitar lines. Effortlessly blurring the lines of electronic, pop, R&B and soul, ‘Restless’ is another testament to Yeo’s talents as a singer, songwriter and producer.
Sydney based artist BLESSED first burst onto the scene with the spirited ‘One And Only’ back in 2016 which served as the perfect introduction to his eclectic alternative sound. Since then, the artist has released a slew of equally impressive tracks along with a stellar EP in the form ‘Love Letters’ which features stand out cuts like “Insanity” and “Sorrows”. Fast forward to 2019 and BLESSED has set the goal of releasing a brand new song every Sunday (#BLESSEDSUNDAYS), the first of which is the energetic ‘BEAMIN’’, a gritty guitar heavy cut which perfectly blends the worlds of Hip Hop with an alternative rock edge.
Jack Grace’s unique compositions have been making waves on the Australian underground scene for a couple of years now, and the electronic singer/producer has consolidated on this momentum with the release of his latest EP ‘IF I TREMBLE’. Fusing classic piano soul with elements of UK bass and footwork production, the distinctive sound of brooding, melancholy tracks like ‘us’ and ‘waiting’ showcases Grace’s ability to create forward-thinking, multi-layered music with a chilling emotional touch.
