Tim Shiel – Right in Front of You (ft. Braille Face)

Melbourne based producer Tim Shiel returns with his first non-soundtrack song in five years with ‘Right in Front of You’, a collaboration with Braille Face. A whirling of woozy sounds that intertwine and coalesce to create an entirely immersive atmosphere, ‘Right in Front of You’ is narrated by Spirit Level label-mate Braille Face’s endearing tones while Sydney producer Anatole lends his fabulous trumpet.

ThatKidMaz – Glow Up (ft. Jordan Dennis)

Up-and-coming Melbourne artist ThatKidMaz teams up with rising rapper Jordan Dennis on hard-hitting new single ‘Glow Up’ which follows up his striking debut single ‘No Vibe’. With production from Duan who pens a classic Hip-Hop beat, the simplistic soundscape allows ThatKidMaz and Jordan Dennis to fire off their killer verses which shine from start to finish. The empowering track, which is about Maz’s journey navigating the world in search of ways to channel his individuality, also comes with a great music video directed by Nick Rae.

Tkay Maidza – IDC IF U BE DED

Australian rapper Tkay Maidza closes out the year with another hard-hitting and powerful single in the form of ‘IDC IF U BE DED’. Following up her previously released single ‘Awake’ with COLORS alum JPEGMAFIA, Maidza serves up more of her sharp verses as she raps with the utmost confident flow as she delivers killer lines like “I just left you on read / IDC if you ded”. With production from Dan Farber, Maidza once again proves why she’s one of the most exciting rappers to come out of Australia in quite a while.

Sig Nu Gris – Fixations

Melbourne based producer and sound designer Sig Nu Gris shares a gripping and captivating four-track project titled ‘Fixations’. Following up her stellar debut single ‘To Un-Know’ earlier this year, the EP features four brilliant re-imaginations of songs that “fascinated” the artist. From the clattery and glitchy atmospherics of opener ‘Skills’ by Gang Starr to the energetic and utterly intoxicating instrumentation on ‘Ongoing Thing’, a remix of 20ysl’s collaboration with Oddisee, ‘Fixations’ is undoubtedly one of the best projects you’ll hear this year.

Wafia – Flowers & Superpowers

Australian based Iraqi-Syrian singer/songwriter Wafia releases dreamy new single ‘Flowers & Superpowers’ and an equally charming video. Serving as the follow up to previously released single ‘Hurts’ which featured Louis The Child and Whethan, the Hit-Boy and Rogét Chahayed produced single is accompanied by a wonderful visual directed by Alexandra Gavillet. GL – Night Habit

Melbourne based electronic duo GL (comprised of Graeme Pogson and Ella Thompson) mark their return with the groove-inflected new single ‘Night Habit’. Since releasing their superb debut album ‘Touch’ back in 2016, the pair have been relatively quiet, but it looks like things are about to change with ‘Night Habit’, a sensuous and playful number. Led by a funk filled guitar line and electronic beat, the track is a retro-futuristic pop gem that’s heightened by Thompson’s evocative vocals.

Gervais Sun – Overzealous

Consider yourself introduced to Melbourne-based musician Rudy Sandapa aka Gervais Sun who serves up some funk-filled vibes in the form of debut single ‘Overzealous’. The magnificent instrumentation brings together elements of pop, jazz, electronic and more as Sandapa’s sweet sounding voice shines across the groove-inflected beat to create the perfect summery atmosphere.

Tkay Maidza – Awake (ft. JPEGMAFIA)

Australian based rapper Tkay Maidza teams up with COLORS alum JPEGMAFIA on her hard-hitting comeback single ‘Awake’. Together with Baltimore rapper JPEGMAFIA, Maidza flexes her powerful vocals over an eerie and frenetic beat penned by Dan Farber as she raps about insomnia. The first single since her ‘Last Year Was Weird Vol. 1’ from last year, ‘Awake’ is the perfect taste of what’s to come from Tkay Maidza.

FELIVAND – Waiting’ For You

Brisbane based singer/songwriter Felicity Vanderveen aka FELIVAND brings more of her dreamy pop musings with the release of new single ‘Waitin’ For You’. Having released her brilliant ‘In Bloom’ EP earlier this year, FELIVAND continues to impress with this latest single which encompasses an ambient atmosphere with the singer’s endearing voice sliding across the lo-fi beat tinged with crisp guitars and lush synths.

Flume – Quits (with Reo Cragun)

Australian beatsmith Flume teams up with singer-rapper Reo Cragun to release ‘Quits’, a staggering and powerful three-track EP. Featuring a new edit of previously released single ‘Friends’, the project opens with title-track ‘Quits’ which boasts Flume’s signature instrumentation giving Cragun the platform to lay down his own slick verses. In the middle, is ‘Levitate’, another tantalisingly smooth and powerful track that opens with the chirping of birds before introducing a pounding bass and synth heavy beat.

Sampa The Great – OMG

Zambian-born, Australia-based artist Sampa The Great unveils ‘OMG’ the vibrant and utterly hypnotising lead single from her long awaited debut album ‘The Return’. Produced by Kwes Darko, the blisteringly  energetic track which sees Sampa the Great blending together a myraid of sounds from Jazz and Hip Hop to spoken word and soul, is accompanied by an equally bombastic music video which is directed by Sanjay De Silva. Aiya – Focus

Aiya are a Melbourne based duo comprised of Ayten + Felicity who create mesmerising electronic-led cuts that draw you in and enchant from start to finish. Since debuting with the glitchy and crisp atmospherics of ‘If I Could Get’ over four years ago, the pair have released just a handful of other tracks in the form of ‘Go’ and ‘Girl’. Marking Aiya’s return, is ‘Focus’, a moody and utterly captivating number which commands your undivided attention as the sparse electronics teeter in and out of the haunting vocals.

Yumi Zouma – Bruise

Having completed their trilogy of EP’s last year, New Zealand outfit Yumi Zouma have shared a brilliant new standalone single in the form of ‘Bruise’. The club-ready track is a slight change of direction from the indie-pop trio’s signature sound, yet those pop nuances we’ve come to love and adore remain stronger than ever. The infectious melodies and soothing tones of vocalist Christie Simpson add a soft and hazy touch to the electronic-led production propelling the track forwards.

Ojikae – EX

Melbourne based newcomer Ojikae aka Matt Cicero introduces himself with the silky smooth intonations of his debut single ‘EX’. Originally released as a demo called ‘Existentiality’ back in 2017, the track is a soulful cut that sees the twenty year-old singer/songwriter address lust and heartbreak. Co-produced alongside Grammy nominated producer Uno Stereo who’s worked with COLORS alum Khalid, ‘EX’ is a brilliant taste of what’s to come from Ojikae.

Tame Impala – Borderline

Having premiered the track on SNL last month, Tame Impala, the psychedelic musical project fronted by Kevin Parker, have shared ‘Borderline’. Along with previously released single ‘Patience’, the two tracks serve as the first taste of new music since the band released ‘Currents’ back in 2015. With ‘Borderline’, the Australian outfit deliver yet another delicious slice of sun-soaked psychedelia as Ken Parker’s breezy vocals sweep across the bouncy production comprised of a crisp beat and groovy guitars.

KIAN – Childism

Consider yourself introduced to Kian Brownfield aka KIAN, an Australian singer/songwriter whose debut single ‘Waiting’ has already surpassed 30 million streams and has supported COLORS alum Jorja Smith on her AU leg of her tour. KIAN’s latest offering, the endearing and guitar-laden ‘Childism’ brings to mind the likes of Frank Ocean circa Blonde interspersed with the warming tones akin to that of Khalid. There’s something personable to ‘Childism’, everything from the poignant, nostalgic lyricism and sun-soaked production to KIAN’s soft intonations gel together effortlessly to create something truly special.

Yeo – Restless

Melbourne based multi-instrumentalist Yeo delights with his first single of the year in the form of the bouncy ‘Restless’. BLESSED – BEAMIN’

Sydney based artist BLESSED first burst onto the scene with the spirited ‘One And Only’ back in 2016 which served as the perfect introduction to his eclectic alternative sound. Since then, the artist has released a slew of equally impressive tracks along with a stellar EP in the form ‘Love Letters’ which features stand out cuts like “Insanity” and “Sorrows”. Fast forward to 2019 and BLESSED has set the goal of releasing a brand new song every Sunday (#BLESSEDSUNDAYS), the first of which is the energetic ‘BEAMIN’’, a gritty guitar heavy cut which perfectly blends the worlds of Hip Hop with an alternative rock edge.

Jack Grace – IF I TREMBLE

Jack Grace’s unique compositions have been making waves on the Australian underground scene for a couple of years now, and the electronic singer/producer has consolidated on this momentum with the release of his latest EP ‘IF I TREMBLE’.
