Sig Nu Gris – Fixations

October 30

Melbourne based producer and sound designer Sig Nu Gris shares a gripping and captivating four-track project titled ‘Fixations’. Following up her stellar debut single ‘To Un-Know’ earlier this year, the EP features four brilliant re-imaginations of songs that “fascinated” the artist. From the clattery and glitchy atmospherics of opener ‘Skills’ by Gang Starr to the energetic and utterly intoxicating instrumentation on ‘Ongoing Thing’, a remix of 20ysl’s collaboration with Oddisee, ‘Fixations’ is undoubtedly one of the best projects you’ll hear this year.

Flume – Quits (with Reo Cragun)

Australian beatsmith Flume teams up with singer-rapper Reo Cragun to release ‘Quits’, a staggering and powerful three-track EP. Featuring a new edit of previously released single ‘Friends’, the project opens with title-track ‘Quits’ which boasts Flume’s signature instrumentation giving Cragun the platform to lay down his own slick verses. In the middle, is ‘Levitate’, another tantalisingly smooth and powerful track that opens with the chirping of birds before introducing a pounding bass and synth heavy beat.

Aiya – Focus

Aiya are a Melbourne based duo comprised of Ayten + Felicity who create mesmerising electronic-led cuts that draw you in and enchant from start to finish. Since debuting with the glitchy and crisp atmospherics of ‘If I Could Get’ over four years ago, the pair have released just a handful of other tracks in the form of ‘Go’ and ‘Girl’. Marking Aiya’s return, is ‘Focus’, a moody and utterly captivating number which commands your undivided attention as the sparse electronics teeter in and out of the haunting vocals.

Jack Grace – IF I TREMBLE

Jack Grace’s unique compositions have been making waves on the Australian underground scene for a couple of years now, and the electronic singer/producer has consolidated on this momentum with the release of his latest EP ‘IF I TREMBLE’. Fusing classic piano soul with elements of UK bass and footwork production, the distinctive sound of brooding, melancholy tracks like ‘us’ and ‘waiting’ showcases Grace’s ability to create forward-thinking, multi-layered music with a chilling emotional touch.
