Consider yourself introduced to Koran-America singer, songwriter and producer DeVita who shines on debut single ‘Evita!’, lifted from her ‘CRÈME’ EP. The powerful debut is a banger from start to finish as DeVita’s glossy vocals slide across the retro-futuristic production with a sprinkling of jazz thrown in for good measure. Check out the track and it’s neon-tinged music video which is directed by Jinooya Makes here.
Rising Cleveland based rapper Nnena debuts her brilliant new single in the form of ‘Work It Out’ produced by Dave Hamelin. The single follows up previously released cuts like ‘Lovesick’ and ‘Not The Thumb’ and wonderfully showcases Nnena’s effortless flow and powerful songwriting. The blistering beat penned by Hamelin features striking drums that you can feel in the pit of your stomach as Nnena works her magic with that infectious and spirited delivery.
Los Angeles based singer/songwriter McCall shares a brilliant music video for latest single ‘Right?’, which follows her ‘Under the Reign’ EP. Opening with the gentle strums of the acoustic guitar, the track quickly takes a turn as McCall’s commanding vocals pierce through the soundscape with killer line “It’s what you wanted right? / Wanted to fuck yourself a new girl right in my sight”. This is uttered as sparkling synths ride across a persistent electronic beat – creating an utterly empowering aesthetic, one that’s carried through in the Griffin Meyer directed clip.
Songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Terrell Hines releases ‘St. Mark Road’, a powerful genre-bending EP that impresses from start to finish. Opening with the explosive and energetic intonations of ‘Get Up’ (which was played during Apple’s 2019 Keynote), the three-track EP is rounded out by the calming nuances of ‘Feel Good’ and heartwarming ‘Living For Today’.
Los Angeles based duo mai.la (comprised of cait & katie) share ‘maybe ୧(ಠ益ಠ)୨’, a blisteringly vibrant and atmospheric pop gem that’s taken from their forthcoming EP titled ‘Blush’. Serving as the follow up to previously heard singles ‘Ready’ and ‘Crash’ which were released in 2016 and 2018 respectively, the cut boasts a powerful guitar-driven beat that’s brightened by the pair’s anthemic vocals.
Dead Wicks is a self proclaimed “psycho-delic grunge-hop” group of New York-grown artists wielding a unique talent for re-working motown songs. Their recently released debut EP ‘Curses’ gifts its listeners a pandora’s box of irreverent genre-bending anthems filled with unusual chord progressions and twisted guitars through alt-pop craftsmanship and poetically chaotic lyricism. The first track on the EP, entitled “Glyph Trip”, kicks things off with a hard electro funk bass line and breathy staccato vocals, before flipping into sitar sounds echoing in a void of synth breakdowns and soulful wails.
