Ebhoni – Cook Food

Toronto based model/singer/rapper Ebhoni’s latest single ‘Cook Food’ packs quite the punch. Produced by DJ Florentino, the track boasts a slick trap-inspired beat, which serves as the perfect backdrop for Ebhoni to lay down her super smooth vocals. What makes this track hit that extra bit harder though, is Ebhoni’s songwriting – the lyrics cutting through sharper than ever with lines like “You say you love me like ‘Cook Food’ / but only when he in a good mood”.

Chiiild – Count Me Out

Consider yourself introduced to Chiiild, a band from Montreal who step into the limelight with debut single ‘Count Me Out’. With production credits that include working on Grammy award winning albums with Skrillex and Diplo to writing and producing with Lady Gaga and Usher and inspired by the likes of Tame Impala and D’Angelo, Chiild’s debut captures a blend of sounds from pop, R&B and soul to jazz. The single boasts a splendid soundscape that boasts gritty guitars and sharp drums with bursts of brass as those soothing tones are smothered on top.

Moël – Votk

Consider yourself introduced to Moël, a singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer from Toronto whose debut single ‘Votk’ will take your breath away. Produced by Alex Ernewein, ‘Votk’ is a multi-layered, soulful cut that evokes a sense of nostalgia as it incorporates sublime guitars with subtle electronics to carve the perfect path for Moël’s lush vocals to weave through with ease. This is undoubtedly one of the strongest debuts you’ll hear all year.

Kogane – Traces

Created “entirely in a floating hotel on the edge of Tofino, BC”, ‘Traces’, the stunning new EP from Canadian artist and producer Kogane is absolute bliss. The four-track project opens with the intricate melodies and utterly captivating soundscapes of ‘Bicycles’ and ‘Alberta’, both instrumental tracks that set the scene wonderfully for the EP’s stunning atmospherics. The EP closes with ‘Max’ and title-track ‘Traces’, both of which introduces Kogane’s soothing tones into the foray, adding another layer of warmth and comfort.

Amaal – Later

Somalia born, Toronto based singer/songwriter Amaal’s voice is quite frankly heavenly. Sharing her songs on social media catapulted her reach before landing her a deal with Universal Music Canada through whom she released her stunning official debut single ‘Not What I Thought’ earlier this year. On latest single ‘Later’, which is taken from her newly released ‘Black Dove’ EP, Amaal enchants with her super smooth vocals and poetic lyricism.

The gorgeous ballad is also accompanied by an equally stunning and insightful visual directed by Kat Webber. Dedicated to F.E.A.T, “a bus program that brings families across the province to visit loved ones in the criminal justice system”, the video depicts Amaal’s own experiences with the program, highlighting a wonderful initiative.

dvsn – In Between

Toronto based R&B duo dvsn (comprised of producer Nineteen85 and singer Daniel Daley) mark their long awaited return with two new singles, ‘Miss Me?‘ and ‘In Between’. Serving as their first new music since their 2017 sophomore album ‘Morning After’, the songs are just as slick and smooth as any dvsn tracks out there. The latter, is the one we’re highlighting here – its simple, guitar-laden production allows Daley’s exceptional vocals to melt your heart as he serenades you with those golden tones.

Yanchan – I Know (ft. Shan Vincent de Paul)

Opening with the line “I feel like a god right now” couldn’t be more apt for ‘I Know’, the latest single from Sri Lankan-Canadian artist and producer Yanchan. Fusing a fiery hip-hop beat with Carnatic nuances, ‘I Know’ is a collaboration with fellow native Shan Vincent de Paul who blitz through his powerful and hard-hitting verse with ease. Together, the pair have created a song that empowers and celebrates both the Eastern and Western influences, masterfully blending the sounds to create a seamless, powerful statement.

EVA – CRY

Toronto based artist Eva Tolkin aka EVA shares ‘CRY’, a glorious standalone single that serves as the follow up to her Danny L Harle produced single ‘Touch Me’ and is the pop anthem you didn’t know you needed. Although the track doesn’t appear on her forthcoming EP, it’s irresistibly vibrant atmospherics and fun pop sensibilities are unquestionable infectious with EVA’s bright vocals wonderfully complimenting the club-ready instrumentation. It’s going to make you want to dance, cry, or perhaps even both!

Garçons – Pedigree

Ottawa based duo Garçons, comprised of singer-songwriter Deelo Avery and producer Julian Strangelove, dazzle with their Afrobeat and R&B infused new single ‘Pedigree’. Bursting with joyful and groovy guitar lines, the track is an absolute blast from start to finish. A breath of fresh air, ‘Pedigree’ is a contemporary concoction that entices and charms its way into your heart and sets you free.

MorMor – Outside

Since introducing himself with his stunning debut EP ‘Heaven’s Only Wishful’ last year, Toronto based singer/songwriter MorMor has shared ‘Outside’, his first release of 2019. Taking a leaf from the EP’s soft and delicate atmospherics, the new single sees his soothing tones sweep across the slightly more upbeat soundscape. The follow up to last December’s ‘Pass The Hours’, ‘Outside’ is another poetic affair that touches on MorMor’s feelings of isolation and alienation.

Shan Vincent de Paul – Heaven (Ft. Navz-47)

Sri Lankan-born, Toronto-based rapper Shan Vincent de Paul teams up with fellow native Navz-47 on his smooth and mellow new single ‘Heaven’. Having released two spectacular albums in the form of ‘Saviors’ and ‘Trigger Happy Heartbreak’ in 2016 and 2017 respectively, the sideways member’s music touches on a range of topics from politics and family to identity and love through his powerful lyricism and thought provoking music videos. With the LA+CH produced ‘Heaven’, Navz-47 takes centre stage as she sings/raps in Tamil over the lush soundscape whilst Shan Vincent de Paul offers up his own smooth vocals for the chorus.
