Sudan Archives is the project of L.A. based musician Brittney Denise Parks who blends together her exquisite violin compositions with experimental electronics and smooth R&B sounds to create a sound unlike anything else. Her resonant tones and poignant songwriting echo throughout ‘Athena’, her incredible debut studio album which was released last year via Stones Throw Recordings. The record featured highlights like lead single ‘Confessions’ as well as ‘Iceland Moss’ which Parks performed for COLORS earlier this year.
As part of her COLORS ENCORE performance, Sudan Archives treats us to another spectacular experience, this time with the icy, electronic-led ‘Black Vivaldi Sonata’. Co-produced alongside Black Taffy, the single captures Sudan Archives’ alluring falsetto-laden tones which glides across crisp electronic beats laced with gentle violin and mandolin bursts. Self-taught on the violin and inspired by Sudanese fiddlers, R&B, experimental electronic music and West African rhythms, L.A. based artist Sudan Archives is one of those artists whose music is unquestionably unique. With a couple of EP’s under her belt in the form of 2017’s ‘Sudan Archives’ and 2018’s ‘Sink’ which featured breakthrough single ‘Nont For Sale’, Sudan Archives has continued to push the boundaries of her artistry with each release. That’s exactly the case with ‘Athena’, her sophisticated and intoxicating debut album which features lead single ‘Confessions’.

For COLORS, Sudan Archives offers up a cool and utterly breathtaking performance of ‘Iceland Moss’, another delectable slice of modernistic R&B from ‘Athena’. With production by Sudan Archives as well as Washed Out and Rodaidh McDonald, the rich soundscapes coupled with Sudan Archives’ elegant vocals juxtapose empowering lines like “I don’t need your fucking handle / Tired of this silly dance” “that tell a different story.
