Pierre Kwenders – Amours d’Été
Pierre Kwenders is the artistic moniker of José Louis Modabi a Congolese-Canadian musician whose 2014 album ‘Le Dernier Empereur Bantou’ was shortlisted for the Juno Award for World Music Album of the Year in 2015, and was also longlisted for the 2015 Polaris Music Prize. Blending both African and western pop music influences in his music, including sprinklings of Hip Hop and electronic music, Kwenders expertly maneuvers his sound as he sing and raps in a multitude of languages from English and French to Lingala and Tshiluba.
For his COLORS session, Pierre Edwards delivers a tantalising performance of ‘Amours d’Été’, a collaboration with Lisbon based producer Branko (formerly of Portuguese group Buraka Som System. Lifted his the latter’s 2019 record ‘NOSSO’, the song encapsulates the album’s sound as it brings in rhythms from across the Lusophone music spectrum from Kizomba, Kuduro, Afro House and Baile Funk. This, coupled with Kwenders’ lush vocals, creates something truly spectacular – enjoy the super smooth and dreamy performance of ‘Amours d’Été’ up top!
