Nemahsis

Born and raised in the countryside in Ontario, Canada, Nemahsis (aka Nemah Hasan) caught the world’s attention last year when she released her debut single ‘what if I took it off for you?’ Based on the artist’s real life experience of being exploited by an advertising company, the song inspired Muslim women around the world to take to TikTok to discuss their experiences of discrimination and relationship with wearing the hijab. Since then, Nemahsis has been committed to using her art to challenge societal biases and stereotypes about, as she told NME in January, “hijabi, POC women, and Muslims in general”. Most recently, she released ‘eleven achers’, her six track debut EP featuring her trademark vulnerable lyrics and exploring her upbringing and religious heritage.

For her COLORS debut, Nemahsis shares a rendition of her new single ‘criminal.’ Addressing themes of trust and betrayal, the intimate track sets the singer’s heart-rending vocals against a delicate piano melody performed by an onstage pianist. Watch the full performance above.
