YAZMIN LACEY – OWN YOUR OWN
Nottingham based singer Yazmin Lacey’s music will give you that warm, fuzzy feeling in the pit of your stomach. Her poetic songwriting, sugary-sweet vocals and eclectic instrumentations resonate wonderfully throughout her discography – from 2017’s magical ‘Black Moon’ EP and 2018’s ‘When The Sun Dips 90 Degrees’ EP to ‘Morning Matters’, Lacey’s most recent project. On the latter, Lacey squeezes in influences from jazz, hip-hop, soul, rock, motown and more on delectable cuts like ‘Not Today Mate’ and the titular ‘Morning Matters’.
For COLORS, the rising soul singer shares a special acoustic rendition of ‘Own Your Own’, another standout gem from ‘Morning Matters’. Opening with the lines “Bad things will happen in our lives / But we must keep a high vibration”, the track serves as a form of self-therapy with Lacey’s honeyed tones offering a consoling hug as she implores you to keep going. Check out the gorgeous performance of ‘Own Your Own’ up top and be sure to give ‘Morning Matters’ a spin too if you haven’t already.
