Inspired by the likes of Mac DeMarco and Bombay Bicycle Club, Thai born, New Zealand raised singer/songwriter Phum Viphurit’s music is a ray of sunshine. Currently based in Bangkok, Viphurit’s eclectic sound encompasses a range of genres from delicate folk and dreamy shoegaze to energised funk with a sprinkling of cheerful pop thrown in for good measure. Last year saw the release of Viphurit’s melancholic yet endearing debut album Manchild which boasts gorgeous melodies draped in lush soundscapes on tracks like “Long Gone” and “Strangers in a Dream”.
For his COLORS show, Phum Viphurit delivers a gloriously stripped back performance of his most recent offering “Lover Boy” which is a taste of what’s to come from his imminent sophomore album. Soundtracked by the gorgeous groove inflected strums of his guitar, Viphurit lays down his lush vocals as he sings about “Wandering the streets all through the night / Searching for the one to make me right“. We can’t wait to hear what Phum Viphurit has in store for us with his next record, but if “Lover Boy” is any indication, we’re in for an absolute treat. Check out the dazzling performance of the track up top.
