When it comes to the French hip hop scene, few come close to the level of expression and delivery as Jok’air. Having already released a number of stellar EPs this past year alone in the form of Big Daddy Jok and most recently Jok’Pololo, not to mention his equally impressive long layer Je suis Big Daddy, Jok’air has proven time and time again why he’s one of the most exciting rappers to come out of France. What makes Jok’air stand out is his versatility. Whilst some rappers power through their verses on just about each and every one of their tracks, Jok’air opens up his softer side and offers a sense of vulnerability and emotion that resonates so much more.
That’s exactly the case with his performance of “L’etrangere” for COLORS, a previously unheard track which will appear on Jok’air’s forthcoming project. The juxtaposition between the fiery beat and Jok’air’s lush and smooth intonations are incredibly refreshing to hear. It’s the kind of track that caters to both hip hop and R&B heads. We can’t wait to hear what Jok’air has in stoe for us with his new album which is out later this year, but if it’s anything on the level of “L’etrangere”, we’re in for a treat! Check out the sensational performance up top!
