Joel Culpepper – Woman
If you’re looking for a singer to melt your heart, then look no further than South East London’s Joel Culpepper. A mesmerizing take on R&B and soul, his delightful EP Tortoise (inspired by the timeless and ever-apt tale of the Tortoise and the Hare) which dropped earlier this year showcases Culpepper’s dazzling musicality as a singer and songwriter. With tracks like “Don’t Mean I’m In Love” and closing gem “Afraid To Be King”, the Londoner encompasses a sense of timelessness with his impeccable voice and enchanting narratives.
For his COLORS session, Joel Culpepper treats us to a sparkling performance of another standout cut from Tortoise, the lush and utterly charming “Woman”. Anchored by that gorgeous piano riff, some drums and a groovy guitar line enter the mix at the same time that those golden tones enter your heart and melt it. Hitting those high notes like it’s nothing, you can’t help but be absolutely blown away by this vocal performance – which rightfully so, is the star of the show. Add the rich textures of lush production and you’ve well and truly got yourself a winner here. Check out the hair-raising and haunting session above and be sure to give Tortoise a spin too!
