Since the release of her Grammy-nominated debut album ‘East Side Story’ in 2008, New York City-raised artist Emily King has incorporated increasing levels of complexity and subtlety into her songwriting. Her polished vocals and mesmerizing compositions shine throughout her discography, on albums such as ‘The Switch’ (2015) and ‘Scenery’ (2019). Ahead of the release of her latest album ‘Special Occasion’, King unveiled ‘This Year’, ‘Medal’ and ‘False Start’, three singles touching on the record’s central theme of heartbreak.
For her debut A COLORS SHOW, King showcases her innovative fusion of soul, R&B, and pop in a performance of her new album’s title-track. Backed by rich and breezy instrumentation, King employs smooth and endearing tones to sing about celebrating the good times, in spite of having a wounded heart.
