Following in the footsteps of Drake and The Weeknd, Daniel Caesar is undoubtedly one of the most exciting artists to come out of Toronto in the past few years. Having been playlisted by Barack Obama not once, but twice on his favorite songs of 2017 list; released his exquisite debut album Freudian to critical acclaim last summer not to mention getting two Grammy nods to top it all off, it’s safe to say that the 22 year old has had quite the year!
As part of his COLORS show, the R&B singer treats us a spellbinding performance of “Best Part” (the studio version of which features the enigmatic singer H.E.R.) which is also taken off his Freudian record. The simple instrumentation comprising of the gentle guitar strums serves as the perfect backdrop allowing Caesar’s warming tones to take their rightful place at centre stage. Creating an entirely immersive and intimate atmosphere, Caesar makes you feel like he’s singing the song to you alone – it’s a special moment. If you haven’t already, give Daniel Caesar’s Freudian album a spin (it’s spectacular!) and of course, be sure to check out his show for COLORS up top.
