Following a slew of singles released over the past few years, C.S. Armstrong never fails to impress with his genre-bending soundscapes on tracks like “Ain’t No Love” and “Spirit In The Dark”. This past year the singer/songwriter delivered the intoxicating and ever so soulful Revelation EP, a four track project of self reflection, expression and honest storytelling which borders on the spiritual. Most recently, C.S. Armstrong brings the worlds of blues, R&B and funk on his Good Times EP which features two utterly enchanting tracks, namely “City In Ruins” and “This Time” which explores both the ups and downs of life. After all, you can’t have and appreciate the former without the latter.
For his COLORS show, C.S. Armstrong unleashes a spellbinding performance of “City In Ruins” in which he sings reminisces about the past: “It’s not what it used to be. I remember how it fell to pieces. City in ruins. No believers. Bless their hearts. It ain’t the same to me.” Powerful drums and sharp percussive bursts are joined by warmbling guitar lines to form the perfect backdrop for Armstrong’s heartfelt and captivating vocals. There’s an element of vulnerability as Armstrong dips in and out of his falsetto during the more tender moments of the performance before switching back to those smooth tones. Check out the stunning rendition of “City of Ruins” above and be sure to give his Good Times EP a spin too!
