Her latest EP, ‘((( ~ )))’, contains three tracks, each showcasing its own blend of R&B, hip-hop, and electronic sound. The persona ((( O ))) emanates is also particularly remarkable. The artist has also dedicated her craft to releasing ‘moonbeats,’ in which she releases new tracks every full moon for the next 12 years. And to anyone who’s wondering: no, her stage name is “not pronounceable.”
Sam Rui has established a name for herself in Singapore over the short span of two years through her incredible covers and spellbinding original material. The singer/songwriter has performed in numerous local music festivals, collaborated with international acts such as Alextbh, and has created a distinctive, sultry sound. In ‘Solid Gold’, Rui teams up with LXX & High4 20 and encapsulates the essence of R&B whilst igniting a perfect, late night mood. The track wonderfully sets the scene perfectly for her forthcoming sophomore album which is set to be released later this year.

Under the moniker Alextbh, the 22-year-old’s sound infuses R&B with a slick pop energy, especially evident in his latest single, ‘walls’; the track is a continuation of his previous single, ‘still mine’, reminiscing on love, loss, and longing. Using his platform to bring awareness to the LGBTQ community, the self-taught artist continues to capture the attention of many.
Five-piece indie/nu-wave band Device have been shaking up the Filipino music scene since their formation in 2015. Formed by a group of friends studying together at university, the band emerged with their debut EP “The Element of Surprise” a name originally taken from one of their first demos. True to its title, the record catches listeners off-guard with a distinctive blend of traditional instruments and electric synths to create a textured, dynamic sound.
Amidst the growing popularity of the dark, late-night sound in the Philippines’ emergent scene, Alisson Shore’s blissful falsetto and sweet harmonies stand out amongst the crowd. A producer/singer songwriter in Manila, he identifies his style to be a mix of lo-fi R&B and futuristic pop, reflective of a blend of influences into which latest single ‘Watercolor’ fits perfectly. Shore uses his vivid songwriting ability to tell a tale of failed relationships and bad chemistry, using a painting motif to explore the “symbolism of two non-identical colors that when blended in, no matter how hard we mix or add/lessen, it just doesn’t seem to look or blend well.”

Olympia is an enigmatic R&B/soul artist based in the Philippines. Born Anica Feliciano, she’s fast become one of Manila’s best kept secrets and has already worked with a number of notable artists within the Filipino scene, featuring on records from the likes of CRWN, Pamcy, Aries and more. ‘You’, the first single off the artist’s upcoming debut solo album, is a smooth melodic track filled with mellifluous tones reminiscent of laid-back afternoons.
Performing under the stage name LONER, Lean Ordinario is an independent Filipino artist with an intriguing sound and a promising future. His recent single ‘autopilot’ evokes a darker mood fit for cold nights of solitude, with dreamlike tinkling pianos and sparse percussion taking a different path from his usual indie/neo-punk rock sound. The track builds the excitement for his LP entitled ‘no fidelity’, coming in the near future.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Valiant Vermin is a rising star with her own signature, experimental sound. Her recent album, ‘Singles’, radiates its own feminine energy through a distinctive bedroom pop sound infused with electronic synths. Real name Bettina Campomanes, she describes her persona as a “bedroom project by some college chick”; she is now based in New York and currently attends university at Bard College while simultaneously making her mark in the music industry.

CRWN is an electronic/hip-hop project by Filipino producer King Puentespina. Since first starting out his music career back in 2013, Puentespina has worked with various talented artists from his country’s local scene, including BP Valenzuela and Curtismith and even released a joint EP with burgeoning international star Jess Connelly; outside of his producing career as CRWN, he also serves as the drummer for successful Filipino rock band She’s Only Sixteen. On CRWN’s latest album ‘Orchid’, he deftly fuses classic soul sounds with contemporary electronic influences to create beats reminiscent of mellow days at the beach.
Richard Alexander Griner, better known as rhxanders, is an American-Filipino producer based in Manila. His latest release, ‘questioning answers / answering questions’, provides a mix of soul and electronic beats infused with romantic emotions. A promising talent, Richard has captivated many local artists in the Philippines by creating a distinctive sound that can only be recognized as his own.
Nights of Rizal (also known as Migi de Belen) is a singer-songwriter dedicated to his chilled out electronic sound. The solo artist has released one full-length album to date, entitled ‘summer/salt’, a project reminiscent of days in the beach and life in eternal vacation. Migi explains the album as having “moody lyrics contemplating on the nature of forgetting & remembering.” The album name refers to an 2012 incident where an injury from a failed somersault forced the artist to re-learn how to walk and eventually, run.

Polo Reyes, frequently known as Mellow Fellow, is an independent dream-pop artist based in the Philippines. Describing his music career as a “project to release sad shit,” he already has three albums under his belt and is in the process of producing a fourth; on his latest single, ‘Don’t You Dare’, the singer explores the feeling of mistrust in relationships. He has also collaborated with foreign acts such as Clairo and Floor Cry, reflecting his status as a promising act with a growing profile in the international music scene.

In 2017, the singer/producer relocated to the United Kingdom to further progress his career internationally, and soon began working closely with The 1975, with lead singer Matty Healy calling Rome “his muse.” On ‘Seventeen’, taken from his forthcoming EP ‘RIP Indo Hisashi’, Rome delivers enchanting vocals over a dreamlike beat, offering a tantalising taste of whats to come.

Though he originally began his music career “accidentally” during a sleepover at his friend’s house, Jason Dhakal, at only 17-years-old, now offers an impressive sound full of sultry passion.

Jess Connelly is a household name in Filipino music and a rising star in the international scene.
