After his vibrant Lacoste LightClub performance, we caught up with Jolagreen23 to discuss his connection with fashion, touring new music, and using his platform to highlight police brutality on his recent album ‘GOTY’.

Hi Jolagreen23, it’s great to have you back on COLORS! How has life been since we last met?

Life’s been moving fast! Since my COLORS performance, I’ve been focused on my tour, pushing out new music, and connecting even deeper with my audience. It’s been a crazy but exciting journey. I love y’all.

It’s been a few months since your debut performance of ‘360TrickShot’ on A COLORS SHOW took off online. What impact has performing on the show had on you as an artist?

Performing on COLORS was a big moment for me. The response was overwhelming—so many new people discovered my music through that performance. It gave me a boost, both in terms of confidence and exposure. Now, every time I perform, I feel like I need to bring that same energy and precision.

You’ve recently kicked off your tour, showcasing tracks from your 2024 project, ‘+99XP.’ How are you handling the excitement of headlining across France?

It’s been surreal. Seeing people from different cities turn up who know the lyrics is crazy. I’ve been putting in the work to deliver the best possible shows for my audience, I’m making sure the energy stays high. It’s a lot, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

According to your Twitter, the countdown is already on for another new project from you, titled ‘GOTY’. What can you tell us about this album?

‘GOTY’ is a statement. It’s a level up in every way—from production to the lyrics and storytelling. It’s a project that reflects where I’m at right now: more focused, more intentional, and ready to claim my spot.

What does ‘GOTY’ stand for? What’s the meaning behind the album artwork?

‘GOTY’ stands for Game of The Year. It’s a double meaning—on one side, it’s a reference to gaming culture, where the best and most impactful game gets that title. On the other, it’s about my own journey. Every move I make, every project I drop, I treat it like it has to be the best of the year. No half-measures.

The album artwork is a powerful image—it’s a photo of me bruised and beaten after a case of police brutality. It’s raw, it’s real, and it represents a bigger message. The album is about resilience, the realities many of us face, and about turning pain into strength.

How has being from Bois-Colombes impacted your style as a musician and artist— both in your music and your fashion sense?

Growing up there, I was exposed to so many different influences—fashion, music, sports. It shaped my authenticity and my hunger to stand out. In my style, you’ll see a mix of classic streetwear and bold statements, just like in my music.

You began recording music during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. What inspired you to start creating music?

Lockdown gave me time to really reflect. I’ve always had music in me, but that period made me realize I had something to say. I started experimenting, writing more seriously, and from there, it just took off.

What drew you to hip-hop as a genre?

Hip-hop is about expression, about telling your story in your own way. The energy, the rawness, the ability to mix so many influences—it just felt like the perfect fit for me.

You’re known for pulling references from a wide range of sources—history, sports, and video games. Can you talk to us about how you draw inspiration and what your writing process is like?

I’ve always been curious. Whether it’s a historic moment, a legendary athlete, or a game I grew up playing, I like to connect different worlds. My writing process is organic—I jot down ideas constantly, and when I’m in the studio, I let the beat guide me.

You’ve collaborated with the likes of Kerchak and Tiakola. Can you tell us about your approach to collaboration and what you take away from working in this style?

Collaboration is about chemistry. I only work with artists I genuinely vibe with. Each collab teaches me something—whether it’s a new flow, a different perspective, or just a new way to approach a beat.

Speaking of collaboration, let’s dive into your partnerships with Lacoste. You’ve now worked with them a few times, most recently at their LightClub Show. Can you tell us about your relationship with the brand?

Lacoste is more than just a brand to me—it’s part of my DNA. The elegance mixed with street culture, the legacy in sports—it aligns perfectly with who I am. Working with them has been natural, and the LightClub event was a perfect example of how we blend music, movement, and fashion.

What’s it like working with the Lacoste styling team—what colors and textures were you most drawn to? How were the NEO SHOT sneakers to perform in?

The team understands my vision. We played around with different textures—tech fabrics, bold cuts. Green is obviously my go-to, but I also experimented with earthy tones and monochrome fits. The NEO SHOT sneakers? Super comfortable and lightweight—ideal for performing.

You’ve mentioned that your favorite color is green, which is synonymous with Lacoste and your artist name. What do you think makes green such a powerful color?

Green represents life, growth, energy. It’s also a power color—it stands out but stays balanced. That’s exactly how I see myself in this industry.

Paris Fashion Week just wrapped up. Why do you think style is such an integral part of the city’s identity?

Paris breathes fashion. The city’s always been about bold statements and pushing boundaries. It definitely influences me, whether it’s in the way I put together a fit or in how I approach visuals in my music.

You previously told us, “It’s important to enjoy the moment, I’ve asked for it.” Can you expand on that?

I’ve worked hard to be where I am. Sometimes, you get so caught up in what’s next that you forget to appreciate what you’ve already achieved. I remind myself daily—this is what I wanted, so I need to enjoy it and keep pushing forward with gratitude.
