Nyokabi Kariũki – Nazama | A COLORS SHOW
Nyokabi Kariũki is a Kenyan composer and sound artist whose musical exploration forays into classical contemporary, experimental electronic music, and traditional East African sounds. The multi-instrumentalist introduced herself with the release of her transcendent debut singles ‘Galu’, and ‘Equator song’, both of which feature on her debut body of work ‘peace places: kenyan memories’ (2022). In March 2023, Kariũki released her debut album ‘FEELING BODY’, a six-track project which chronicles the artist’s experience of illness to recovery from long COVID in 2021.
For her A COLORS SHOW, Nyokabi Kariũki presents a new, explosive live version of ‘Nazama’, the stunning closing track from ‘FEELING BODY’. Blissful harmonies, a powerful bass, and the rattling of river stones swirl in the background of ‘Nazama’. Kariũki’s explosive vocals pierce through the backdrop like a light radiating a healing, and meditative energy as she sings about her recovery from long COVID.
